A Statement from Gerallt Llewelyn Jones , MD of Menter Mon. September 14th 2016.

To attendees, customers, supporters and producers with an interest in the OYSTER FESTIVAL held annually at the Trearddur Bay Hotel.

It is with regret that I have to inform you, having consulted with producers and other stakeholders, that the Oyster Festival will not be held this year. Over the next year we will seek to come to a decision on the festival’s future, with our decision now being to postpone it for 2016. In the past few years it has been challenging to meet all the financial costs associated with the festival, and were it not for Jayne Jones’ determination, along with a group of producers and help from the Trearddur Bay Hotel, the festival would have struggled. That there remains a small surplus from previous festivals is testament to the hard work put into this event in the past.

For the sake of clarity we can therefore state that there will be no Oyster Festival this year. The food sector has moved on greatly on the island since the first Oyster Festival in 1996/7. Food events are now more frequent and more diverse, many of them organised and administered by the industry itself, which is how it should be.

Over the next six months we will consult more widely on the Festival’s future from 2017 onwards. Thanks for your patience and for your contributions to the Oyster Festival over the years.
